The IPPF, a unique entity, has played a crucial role in crime prevention and the treatment of offenders, notably through (supporting) scientific research, publications, and teaching activities. IPPF members come from all over the world, representing academia, the judiciary and penal administration.

IPPF’s history stretches back over 150 years, during which it has led and participated in international dialogue and policymaking in penal and penitentiary issues, including the development of the first UN Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners.
